How I can help:

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is similar to individual therapy in many ways, but different in one critical aspect: there are three people in the room instead of two, and the “client” is the relationship not either individual.

Aside from this difference, much of the counseling process is the same for couples as for individuals.

Couples Therapy

Who is it for?

In therapy, we’ll work together to explore the problems and their origins and to identify a common goal. Some common goals of therapy include:

  • Reducing fights and reworking unhelpful conflict patterns
  • Restoring emotional intimacy and strengthening connection
  • Establishing trust
  • Renewing and enhancing sexual intimacy
  • Developing healthy, effective communication skills

Couples Therapy

What will we do?

Once we’ve defined the outcomes we want to work toward, we’ll put a plan in place as we begin to resolve conflicts and to repair the relationship.

I draw my strategies and approach to couples’ counseling from The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and the work of Terry Real and Pia Mellody.

We’ll have in-session practices where I’ll guide each partner in expressing difficult emotions and in communicating your needs and wants. You’ll work towards improving your connection and skills in session and through homework exercises so that you’re able to maintain the positive changes on your own.
